How to Build A Shipping Container Home

Learning how to build a shipping container home involves many different plans and strategies.

However, if your idea to build a container house for yourself or someone else, whether it is for living in, using for a 1st or 2nd vacation home get-away, or just for basic storage, you have come to the right place.

For starters, This article is NOT a “how to build” your container home but more like a quick guide to preparing yourself for what to expect and how to proceed in the correct path so you do not find yourself pulling out your hair!

Your next-door neighbors may have an issue with it but with the right strategy and design, as long as it is not an “eye sore” and both parties get along with your design, you should NOT have a problem.

Building a shipping container home and converting it into a container house for a much smaller amount of cash is at least worth looking into compared to the prices of standard homes now-days. There are zoning regulations that will or will not allow for this so looking into this 1st would be my utmost first task before even getting involved in anything else!

( If you cannot build it, why waste the time looking for discounts and a construction crew? )

Anyway, here is a GREAT Web site to check for building codes. ( I highly recommend checking this out 1st! )

No Building Codes

Now, for the “Green and Environmental” thinkers, I would think that turning a steel corrugated shipping container from a disgusting, rotting, ugly looking piece of &*%$# and turn it into something very attractive to live inside would be of interest.

This is what many container home designers are trying to do at the moment and are actually being very successful at it.

Now, of course, just because I mentioned that you can and will save tons of money doing this, keep in mind that you can also get carried away and spend way more than your originally wanted to if your are not careful and or decide to go overboard and crazy! lol…

Take a look at some of these examples:

Strength is something you never have to worry about! Remember; these are made of STEEL! These units can be stacked up to 5 high!

Also, to keep in mind, the majority of usage when dealing with these units (before converting them into homes or offices ) are generally for shipping goods and merchandise all over the world by means of large cargo ships!  They are going to take a “Beating” from mother nature and whatever insane weather she has for them.

If you are interested in taking the next step to create and or build a container house either by yourself or to use a construction team to do so (which is something i recommend ) , here are some links to get you started!
